The movie starred Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shetty, Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, Rahul Bose, Zarina Wahab, etc. Aamir Khan performed the voice over for the dog, which is the narrator of the movie.
Kamal Mehra (Anil Kapoor), a businessman owns a failing company Ayka. His relationship with his wife Neelam (Shefali Shetty) is troubled. He has 2 children – Ayesha (Priyanka Chopra) and Kabir (Ranveer Singh). Pluto is their family dog, which functions as the narrator.
Ayesha is a successful businesswoman in her own right, running a travel portal rated number 2 in the market. She has an unhappy marriage with Manav Sangha (Rahul Bose). This man is a control freak and a narcissistic husband. He and his mother Smita (Zarina Wahab) hate Ayesha’s family. Kabir is an unwilling participant in the family business, though he prefers to be a pilot.
Kamal and Neelam’s 30th wedding anniversary is decided to be celebrated in a cruise ship during a 10-day cruise across the Mediterranean. The entire arrangements are made by Ayesha. But, her name is dropped from the invite. The invitees include several business families particularly the Soods – Lalit Sood (Parmeet Sethi), his wife Naina (Dolly Mattoo) and their daughter Noori (Riddhima Sud). Kabir’s parents have planned the alliance of their son with Noori so that Lalit could support the sinking ship called Ayka.
But, fate has something else in store for them. On the cruise, Kabir meets Farah Ali (Anushka Sharma) in the swimming pool in the night, the day they board the ship. It turns out that Farah is the lead dancer of the troupe hired for the cruise. Kabir and Farah begin to date each other. But, when she is caught at a night out by her mother, she lies that she was with Kabir. The Mehra and the Sood families begin to plan their children’s marriage.
However, when the whole set of travelers were out enjoying the historically important locations, At that moment, Kabir is back at the ship dancing with Farah on this song.
Song: The lyrics were penned by Javed Akhtar and the music was scored by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
The gist of the song is, “When I saw you for the first time, listen, beloved, to what I thought. I felt like meeting you right then. I said this to convince my heart. Never go this way, dear traveler. This is not for you. My heart said, let whatever happens, happen. Why fear? Let good or evil happen on its own. What did the heart say that you listened? What route did you take?”
Video: Cinematography is by Carlos Catalan. Dance choreography is by Bosco Martis-Caesar Gonsalves.
The video opens with Ranveer Singh tampering with the remote of the music system. He is in a gym room. He changes the music to a faster pace. He begins with a little exercise. Anushka Sharma is laughing. Ranveer Singh begins to dance in tune with the music. He begins to sing as well. He asks for her hand and pulls her into his arms to dance together.
They separate and continue to dance apart. Anushka Sharma begins to sing. After some dancing together, she takes him through the crew area to the laundry section where he gets into the dress of the captain. Then, she takes him to her room and closes the door from the inside. They kiss. During that time the song continues in the background.
He begins to sing again. He goes and lies on the bed. Then, he begins to remove his dress standing up. She removes her shoes and joins him in the song as well as the bed. She also begins to remove her dress. She pushes him onto the bed to sit on him and remove and throw her T-shirt away. The song and video end as the cruise ship is shown sailing.
Artists: The playback singer is Sukriti Kakkar and Siddharth Mahadevan and the onscreen performances are by Anushka Sharma, Ranveer Singh and others.
Cultural Influence: This typically Bollywood filmi dance song. Actually, I am disappointed with Zoya Akhtar. Call me a prude. But, I don’t understand this concept of the youth going to bed the moment they like someone. Ok, you are in love. Can’t you have the patience to wait till you are married to get to bed together? What is the fun when you have done it all before marriage? Otherwise, the song and the artists are good.
