Girls like to swing – Sunidhi Chauhan – Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy – Anushka/Priyanka | Dil Dhadakne Do (2015)


Movie: This song appeared in 2015 Junglee Pictures and Excel Entertainment’s comic caper Dil Dhadakne Do (Let the Heart Beat) directed by Zoya Akhtar and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar. The movie starred Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shetty, Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, Rahul Bose, Zarina Wahab, etc. Aamir Khan performed the voice over for the dog, which is the narrator of the movie.
Kamal Mehra (Anil Kapoor), a businessman owns a failing company Ayka. His relationship with his wife Neelam (Shefali Shetty) is troubled. He has 2 children – Ayesha (Priyanka Chopra) and Kabir (Ranveer Singh). Pluto is their family dog, which functions as the narrator.
Ayesha is a successful businesswoman in her own right, running a travel portal rated number 2 in the market. She has an unhappy marriage with Manav Sangha (Rahul Bose). This man is a control freak and a narcissistic husband. He and his mother Smita (Zarina Wahab) hate Ayesha’s family. Kabir is an unwilling participant in the family business, though he prefers to be a pilot.
Kamal and Neelam’s 30th wedding anniversary is decided to be celebrated in a cruise ship during a 10-day cruise across the Mediterranean. The entire arrangements are made by Ayesha. But, her name is dropped from the invite. The invitees include several business families particularly the Soods – Lalit Sood (Parmeet Sethi), his wife Naina (Dolly Mattoo) and their daughter Noori (Riddhima Sud). Kabir’s parents have planned the alliance of their son with Noori so that Lalit could support the drowning ship called Ayka.
But, fate has something else in store for them. On the cruise, Kabir meets Farah Ali (Anushka Sharma) in the swimming pool in the night, the day the board the ship. It turns out that Farah is the lead dancer of the troupe hired for the cruise. This is the song she performs for the young crowd of the cruise-goers the next day.
Song: The lyrics were penned by Javed Akhtar and the music was scored by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
The gist of the song is, “Glittering girls, shimmering girls. You only are crazy of them. Laughing and singing girls, giggling girls. Listen to what they want. Listen to what is in their minds. Listen to what is in their hearts. Listen to what dreams are there in their eyes. Girls like to swing. They like to swing in different colors.”

The lights switch on, on the stage and some girls are standing with Japanese fans covering their faces. Another girl is sitting toward the back with her face covered with another Japanese fan. The music begins and 2 girls begin dancing. The girl sitting behind moves the fan in her hand and smiles. She is Anushka Sharma.
Ranveer Singh feels surprised and happy. Everybody, including Priyanka Chopra and Rahul Roy, is enjoying the performance. Anushka Sharma begins the song and begins to dance vigorously with the other girls. Anushka Sharma and some of the girls come down from the stage and mingle with the audience as they continue to dance.
Anushka Sharma takes Priyanka Chopra with her and they dance and sing together. The song peters out and the video ends as the 2 girls take leave of each other.

Cultural Influence: This typically Bollywood filmi song has a retro Broadway musical beat in it. The song and the artists are good. The video is also watchable for the same.
