On May 21, Blake Shelton brought home the grand prize for country music at the Billboard Music Awards: “Top Country Artist.” Shelton beat out other leading country music artists like Jason Aldean, Chris Stapleton, Florida Georgia Line and Keith Urban.
After the announcer called his name, Shelton grabbed a quick kiss from girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, before taking the stage. During his acceptance speech, he showed his gratitude for winning such a prestigious award:
I know this award is based on facts and industry things … sales and streaming and radio airplay and all that stuff but I think that all kinda comes down to a fan-vote award if you think about it. If it wasn’t for the fans we wouldn’t have the sales and the ticket sales and airplay. So thank you, fans, first and foremost.
As he finished his speech, the crowd erupted into a round of applause and cheers.
Blake Shelton won the award with a huge collection of albums from across the years — nine in total — with his most recent coming out just last year. The album is titled “If I’m Honest” and has some great songs on it. Some of the most popular are “Every Time I Hear That Song,” “Came Here to Forget” and “A Guy With a Girl.”

Many of the songs on this new album correspond with the singer’s past few years of tumultuous relationships. Just last year, he divorced his wife, Miranda Lambert, after four years of marriage. He then quickly turned around to date Gwen Stefani. The singer had to have had a lot going on in his love life to warrant the songs on this new album.
Now, he is busy serving as a judge on “The Voice” and touring to promote his latest work. His current tour will take him across the US through the summer and end in Colorado Springs, Colo. in September.
Currently, the artist claims that he is preparing to retire from country music altogether as well as The Voice, but no official plans have been made yet.
