Kabira Encore – Harshdeep/Arjit – Pritam Chakraborty | Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani (2013)

With the popularity of the original Kabira song, this song was made with more happy music.
Movie: This song appeared in 2013 Dharma Productions’ hit romantic drama Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani (This Youth is Crazy) produced by Karan Johar and directed by Ayan Mukherji. The movie starred Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin, Kunal Roy Kapur, Aditya Roy Kapur, Dolly Ahluwalia, etc.
After a chance meeting between shy and nerdy Naina Talwar (Deepika Padukone) and her cool and funky school friend Aditi Mehra (Kalki Koechlin), Naina decides overnight to go to Manali for vacations, without even informing her home.
Avinash ‘Avi’ Yog (Aditya Roy Kapur) and Kabir ‘Bunny’ Thapar (Ranbir Kapoor) join them in the trip. Kabir is a flirty chap, who is not interested in marrying or settling down. During the trek, Kabir and Naina are attracted to each other though he keeps flirting with other girls. He teaches her to have fun and more importantly to love herself and life.
Naina falls in love with Kabir, but, she knows that he loved traveling more. Aditi is in love with Avinash, but, he does not reciprocate her feelings. Avinash keeps flirting with other girls. This hurts Aditi. She realizes that Avi and she are not supposed to come together.
While they are returning from the trek, the friends get to know that Kabir is going to Chicago to study journalism. Initially, they are shocked. But then, they all have to accept it. Naina stops herself from saying her love for him and lets him go.
8 years down the line Kabir is still in America working as a videographer with a TV Channel. He has just received an offer to host a prestigious project. Aditi sends him a video invite for her destination wedding in Rajasthan. Back in India, she is actually marrying a simpleton Taran (Kunal Roy Kapur), who is an awkward and weird man but good at heart.
Kabir arrives at the wedding venue with a lot of fanfare. The wedding rituals are shown in this song, which is played in the background.
Song: The music of this song was scored by Pritam Chakraborty and the lyrics were penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya.
The gist of the song is, “The bride is leaving for her husband’s place. She has left is in tears. She has also left us with beautiful memories.”
Video: Cinematography is by Manikandan. Dance choreography is by Remo D’Souza.
The video opens with Kalki Koechlin sitting under a chunri held by her friends to shade her from the sun and evil eyes. All the people there apply a little turmeric paste on her face, forearms and legs. She also applies the same on her friends’ faces. Ranbir Kapoor picks up the whole amount of turmeric paste and applies it on her face. She also does the same on him. They take some pictures.
2 women are, then, seen playing the dholak. Everybody is rejoicing. When the marriage procession brings the groom Kunal Roy Kapoor on an elephant, Kalki Koechlin is also brought under a lighted chunri by her friends. Deepika Padukone brings her friend toward the place where the wedding rituals are to be held. The video ends as Ranbir Kapoor is left looking at Deepika Padukone.
Artists: The playback singers of this song are Harshdeep Kaur and Arjit Singh and the onscreen performances are by Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin, Aditya Roy Kapur, Kunal Roy Kapur and others.
Cultural Influence: This typically filmi song, depicting a North Indian wedding, has a lot of Punjabi influence shown in it. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
