Movie: This song appeared in 2013 Dharma Productions’ hit romantic drama Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani (This Youth is Crazy) produced by Karan Johar and directed by Ayan Mukherji. The movie starred Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Farooq Sheikh, Tanvi Azmi, Aditya Roy Kapur, Kalki Koechlin, etc.
The movie begins with Naina Talwar (Deepika Padukone) going shopping with her mother (Dolly Ahluwalia) and meeting her school friend Aditi Mehra (Kalki Koechlin) there. Aditi is an outgoing funky girl while Naina is a shy and nerdy student of medicine. When Naina hears that Aditi is going to Manali for vacations, she realizes what she had missed all through her life.
Kabir ‘Bunny’ Thapar (Ranbir Kapoor) and Avinash ‘Avi’ Yog (Aditya Roy Kapur) are also going for the trip. Naina decides overnight to join them and leaves for the trip without informing at home. Kabir is a flirty chap, who only wants to travel the world. He is not interested in marrying or settling down. He stays with a supportive father (Farooq Sheikh) and his step-mother (Tanvi Azmi). During the mountain trek, Kabir and Naina come close to each other despite his flirting with other girls. He teaches her to let go of herself and more importantly to love herself and life.
Naina falls in love with Kabir, but, thinks that he may not get married to her. He wanted to travel the world over. While they are returning from the trek, the bus stops at a place where people are playing Holi. Aditi is in love with Avinash, but, he does not reciprocate her feelings. Avinash keeps flirting with other girls. This hurts Aditi. It is at this time that they sing this song.
Song: The music of this song was scored by Pritam Chakraborty and the lyrics were penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya.
The gist of the song is, “O beloved, people feel that the colors, you threw on me, have made a mess. When your color fell on me, a straight-forward girl became intoxicated.”

The video opens with Deepika Padukone spraying water on Ranbir Kapoor, Kalki Koechlin and Aditya Roy Kapur. Ranbir Kapoor throws his coat away and approaches Deepika Padukone with the intention of taking sweet revenge. She begins to run away from him. He picks up some Holi color and throws it on Deepika Padukone.
Deepika Padukone begins the song and also begins to dance. Ranbir Kapoor looks at her smiling. Kalki Koechlin joins her. Both the girls approach Aditya Roy Kapur, who is drinking bhang from the stall. Deepika Padukone picks up one glass and throws the contents on him. Ranbir Kapoor also begins to sing the song.
The 4 friends dance together. There are other extra dancers as well. The other friends also fall into it. Aditya Roy Kapur follows another girl behind a curtain. Kalki Koechlin is badly hurt and moves away. They all go to an event where they perform the dance on the stage. The song ends as Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone stand looking at each other. The video also ends there.
