Prem Dilwale (Salman Khan) collects donations for the Delhi-based Princess Maithili’s (Sonam Kapoor) Uphaar Foundation. Prem idolizes Maithili. But, she is engaged to Prince Vijay Singh (Salman Khan again) of Pritampur.
Unknown to all, Vijay encounters a near fatal accident while returning from his step-sisters’ place. Prem gets the chance to meet Maithili in person. Prem and his friend Kanhaiya (Deepak Dobriyal) leave for Pritampur since she is expected there for Prince Vijay’s coronation ceremony. On the way, he meets the head of palace security staff Sanjay (Deepraj Rana) and the man is stunned by Prem’s likeness to the Prince.
Sanjay takes Prem and his friend to the fort. Sanjay, then, takes the medicines to a hidden chamber in the fort where the Prince is being treated. The Prince was saved by the palace loyals when the accident had occurred. With the Prince’s coronation in 4 days, he is in a coma. Sanjay eventually convinces Diwan Sahab (Anupam Kher) that Prem can act as a front for the Prince until the latter recovers.
Diwan Sahab convinces Prem to do the job. He agrees, but, refuses money in return for doing the job. Diwan Sahab tells Prem about the Prince’s mannerisms. He also tells him about the love-hate relationship between the Prince and his step-sisters Princess Chandrika (Swara Bhaskar) and Princess Radhika (Aashika Bhatia). Diwan Sahab informs him that the Prince’s step-brother Prince Ajay Singh (Neil Nitin Mukesh), CEO of Pritampur Estate Properties Chirag Singh (Arman Kohli) and the Price’s secretary Sameera (Samaira Rao) were in cahoots with each other and had plotted the death of the Prince Vijay Singh. But, there was no proof against them as yet. In all this façade, Kanhaiya’s role is to keep Sameera away from Prem. If she came close to him, she would be able to know that it is not the real Prince.
Everything goes fine until Princess Maithili arrives. She is not happy about their relationship. She wants to know where she stands as far as the Prince is concerned. She has several complaints about the Prince, which she enlists in a song. In the next few days, Maithili is very impressed by what Prem or the Prince does. They meet the Prince’s step-sisters in the market and Maithili presents Chandrika with a silver bracelet. Chandrika rejects it by throwing it away. The 2 step-sisters live in a rented house with minimal facilities, away from the palace. Prem takes several household appliances as gifts for the 2 sisters. But, Chandrika rejects all the gifts and throws them out of her house.
A royal ceremony is to be conducted as a prelude to the coronation in a garden close to the step-sisters’ rented house. Chandrika restricts Radhika from going for a football practice match at her school. In frustration, the younger girl throws the football that she has into the garden. Prem enlists Maithili’s support in attracting the Prince’s younger step-sister, Radhika to the venue of the event. Prem was supposed to present a speech in pure Hindi. But, he takes the opportunity to organize a football match between the ladies and the men, who are present there.
At the end of the match, Radhika has become friends with Prem or the Prince. But, Chandrika is very angry. When Prem asks her what did she want, she replies that she wanted the palace where the Prince and his wife were going to live happily ever after. Prem promises her that she would get the palace. Diwan Sahab is very upset about it and tells Prem and Kanhaiya to leave. When Diwan Sahab goes to visit the Prince, he sees that Prince Vijay has been kidnapped by Prince Ajay. The Diwan Sahab suffers ill health and gets bedridden. When Prem and Kanhaiya visit him for the last time, he requests them to stay back for a few more days and lets Prem decide how he creates a well-being among all the royalty.
During another prelude to the coronation ceremony, Prem announces that he has transferred his palace and all his property to his sister. Chandrika is moved and she becomes friends with Prem or the Prince. It is at this time that Maithili sings this song.
