Tod tadaiya re – Neeraj/Neeti – Himesh Reshammiya – Salman/Sonam | Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015)

Movie: This song appeared in 2015 Rajshri Productions’ hit romantic flick Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (Found a Treasure Called Love) produced by Ajit Kumar Barjatya, Rajkumar Barjatya and Kamal Kumar Barjatya and directed by Sooraj Barjatiya. The movie starred Salman Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Deepak Dobriyal, Swara Bhaskar, Aashika Bhatia, Anupam Kher, Manoj Joshi, Deepraj Rana, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Arman Kohli, etc.

The movie begins with a Ram Leela performance for which Prem Dilwale (Salman Khan) receives a lot of small donations from the audience. Prem has collected these donations for the Delhi-based Princess Maithili’s (Sonam Kapoor) Uphaar Foundation. But, she is engaged to Prince Vijay Singh (Salman Khan again) of Pritampur.

Unknown to all, Vijay encounters a near fatal accident while returning from his step-sisters’ place. Prem, on the other hand, idolizes Maithili and gets the chance to meet her in person. Prem and his friend Kanhaiya (Deepak Dobriyal) leave for Pritampur since she is expected there for Prince Vijay’s coronation ceremony. On the way, he meets the head of palace security staff Sanjay (Deepraj Rana) and the man is stunned by Prem’s likeness to the Prince.

Sanjay takes Prem and his friend to the fort. Sanjay, then, takes the medicines to a hidden chamber in the fort where the Prince is being treated. The Prince had been saved by the palace loyals when the accident had occurred. With the Prince’s coronation in 4 days, he is in a coma. Sanjay eventually convinces Diwan Sahab (Anupam Kher) that Prem can act as a front for the Prince until the latter recovers.

Diwan Sahab has a tough job convincing Prem to do the job. He agrees, but, refuses money in return for doing the job. Diwan Sahab tells Prem about the Prince’s mannerisms. He also tells him about the love-hate relationship between the Prince and his step-sisters Princess Chandrika (Swara Bhaskar) and Princess Radhika (Aashika Bhatia). Diwan Sahab also tells him that the Prince’s step-brother Prince Ajay Singh (Neil Nitin Mukesh), CEO of Pritampur Estate Properties Chirag Singh (Arman Kohli) and the Price’s secretary Sameera (Samaira Rao) were in cahoots with each other and had plotted the death of the Prince Vijay Singh. But, there was no proof against them as yet. In all this façade, Kanhaiya’s role is to keep Sameera away from Prem. If she came close to him, she would be able to know that it is not the real Prince.

Everything goes fine until Princess Maithili arrives. She is not happy about their relationship. She wants to know where she stands as far as the Prince is concerned. She has several complaints about the Prince, which she enlists in a song. In the next few days, Maithili is very impressed by what Prem or the Prince does. They meet the Prince’s step-sisters in the market and Maithili presents Chandrika with a silver bracelet. Chandrika rejects it by throwing it away. The 2 step-sisters live in a rented house with minimal facilities, away from the palace. Prem takes several household appliances as gifts for the 2 sisters. But, Chandrika rejects all the gifts and throws them out of her house.

A royal ceremony is to be conducted as a prelude to the coronation in a garden close to the step-sisters’ rented house. Chandrika restricts Radhika from going for a football practice match at her school. In frustration, the younger girl throws the football that she has into the garden. The ball falls on one of the decorations where Maithili has written Vijay Singh’s name with rose petal and messes it up. Though Maithili says that she would redo the whole thing, Prem enlists her support in attracting the Prince’s younger step-sister to the venue of the event. Prem was supposed to present a speech in pure Hindi. But, he takes the opportunity to organize a football match between the ladies and the men, who are present there. It is at this time that Prem and Maithili sing this song.

Song: The music of this song was scored by Himesh Reshammiya and the lyrics were penned by Irshad Kamil.

The man challenges, “Come, dear girl, let’s have this match. You are so playful and bicker like a sparrow. You have a tendency to quarrel. You have a strong attitude.” The girl replies in a positive way and agrees to the contest.

Video: Cinematography is by V Manikandan. Dance choreography is by Radhika Rao-Vinay Sapru-Ahmad Khan-Mudassar Khan-Shabina Khan.

The video opens with the automatic formation of the goal-posts. Aashika Bhatia looks out at what is happening. There is a short conversation between Sonam Kapoor and Salman Khan. She winks and the match begins. The match is actually actors dancing around each other and the ball! Everybody is wearing traditional Indian dresses.

Salman Khan suddenly lifts Sonam Kapoor in his arms and pushes the ball toward the goal. Samaira Rao is unable to stop it and apologizes holding her ears. Aashika Bhatia is getting irked. The girls complain to the referee Manoj Joshi, who just leaves the place. Swara Bhaskar tells Aashika Bhatia to wash clothes.

The girls use romantic tactics to acquire their goals. Next, Salman Khan picks Sonam Kapoor up on his shoulder and Deepraj Rana hit the goal easily this time. Aashika Bhatia is still more irritated that she is not being allowed to play the match. Neil Nitin Mukesh gets a call and he leaves. It begins to rain.

Everybody removes their coats and folds their pajamas up. Anupam Kher opens an umbrella. Some Bharatanatyam dancers join Salman Khan and they perform some classical dance steps. He keeps hitting goals as Sonam Kapoor and the other girls watch. Aashika Bhatia runs to the garden and joins the girls’ team, which is losing.

Singlehandedly, Aashika Bhatia hits goal upon goal to help the girls’ team win. Salman Khan and Deepraj Rana lift her up on their shoulders. Everybody is rejoicing and Aashika Bhatia and Salman Khan become friends. The video ends as Swara Bhaskar is seen looking from the balcony of their rented home.

Artists: The playback of this song was sung by Neeraj Shridhar and Neeti Mohan and the onscreen performances are by Salman Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Deepak Dobriyal, Swara Bhaskar, Aashika Bhatia, Anupam Kher, Deepraj Rana, Neil Nitin Mukesh and others.

Cultural Influence: This typically filmi song where the hero challenges the heroine to a football match. This is actually only to attract the Prince’s step-sister, who is a football freak. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
