Though only for the duration of their South American Tour, Korn’s newest addition is the kind of news that will make your jaw drop to the floor! If you are a fan of both Korn and Metallica, you might want to sit down for this one.
Tye Trujillo, the 12-year-old son of Metallica’s Bass Player Robert Trujillo, will be standing in for Korn’s Fieldy until the band returns to states on May 6 to play the Carolina Rebellion Festival. Korn’s members are keeping the reason for Fieldy’s absence respectfully discreet to honor their bass player’s privacy, but say his sudden and unfortunate leave is due to “unforseen circumstances.”
Though we are all missing our favorite dread-headed bass player, there is no adequate way to perfectly articulate the amount of excitement we all have knowing that a rock legend like Robert Trujillo’s own son will be sharing the stage with Korn!
There has been, however, a certain amount of controversy over whether or not this was a winning decision on the band’s part. Generally the worry is that Tye Trujillo is not as qualified for the position because of his age and assumed “lack of experience.” However, most people have come to realize the truth about the young Trujillo: he’s actually been a very talented and successful performer for years now, performing with his band, “The Helmets,” and even sharing some head banging bass time on stage with his dear ol’ dad (see video below). As young as he may be, young Trujillo’s got more talent in his pinky than most of us had in our whole body at his age!
Korn’s definitely excited about sharing the stage with Tye Trujillo, and we’re just as excited to see how it all turns out!
