The Chainsmokers find their softer side on their freshly released ballad “The One.” The duo is set to drop their debut album on April 7, 2017.
“The One” is an apology song at its core. Reminiscent and wistful, “The One” spotlights vocals from The Chainsmokers’ Andrew Taggart, who dominates the song over a piano and, later, tempered electro beats. The song also features female background vocals similar to the duo’s earlier release “Paris.”
“Before one of us takes a chance and breaks this/I won’t be the one/No I won’t be the one,” Taggart sings out during the track’s chorus.
“The One” follows closely behind the production duo’s Coldplay-assisted “Something Just Like This” and youthful ditty “Paris.” The track is distinctly different from The Chainsmokers’ usual airy, upbeat EDM anthems.
