Movie: This song appeared in the 1965 hit romantic drama Guide produced by late Dev Anand and directed by late Vijay Anand under the banner of Nav Ketan International. The movie starred Dev Anand, Waheeda Rehman, late Leela Chitnis, late Kishore Sahu, late Gajanan Jagirdar, late Anwar Hussain, Rashid Khan, etc.

This is the story of the guide Raju (Dev Anand), who helps a housewife Rosie (Waheeda Rehman), who is frustrated in her marriage, achieve her dreams of becoming a classical dancer.

Rosie, finally, leaves her husband Marco (Kishore Sahu) and goes to live with Raju. Rosie is considered a whore by Raju’s community since for them all classical dancers are prostitutes working in royal courts. His family leaves him. Raju loses his business and the entire town goes against him. Raju helps Rosie establish herself in a singing and dancing career and she, soon, becomes a star. As she rises as a star, Raju takes up gambling and drinking. Marco comes back to win Rosie back. Raju is jealous and blocks all contact of Marco with Rosie. Marco wants some jewels that she has in her bank locker. Raju forges Rosie’s signature for the release of the jewels.

Rosie and Raju are also drifting apart due to Rosie’s strange behavior. She doesn’t even give him a hug and tells him to leave her room otherwise she would have to leave. She sings this song on stage when she gets to know about Raju’s forgery.

Song: The memorable music of this song was composed by S D Burman and the lyrics were woven together by Shailendra.

The girl sings that the man had cheated her and he was dishonest.

The video opens with the beginning of the music and Waheeda Rehman beginning to dance on an elaborate stage. Dev Anand is seen forlornly standing in the backstage area. Waheeda Rehman begins the song. Several other girls are also dancing along with her. Waheeda Rehman dances very beautifully and gracefully. The music rises to a crescendo and the video ends there.

Cultural Influence: A woman frustrated in her marriage meets a guide and her life changes. As a result of that, she is able to overcome the frustration, release her inner feelings and sings happily. But, as she becomes a star, she and the guide drift apart. This filmi song depicts the emotion of disgust as a result of betrayal. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
