This song has my 5 favorites – Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Saroj Khan, Sridevi and Mithun Chakraborty. A fantastic combo!
Movie: This song appeared in 1988 romantic action flick Waqt Ki Awaaz (Call of the times) directed by Kovelamudi Bapayya and produced by T Trivikrama Rao under the banner of Vijayalakshmi Art Pictures. The movie starred Mithun Chakraborty, Sridevi, Gulshan Grover, Kader Khan, Ranjeet, Shakti Kapoor, Asrani, etc.
Vishwa Pratap (Mithun Chakraborty) is undertrial for murdering someone called Billa. The Jailor (Vikas Anand) does not believe that he could be a killer since he has a track record of a good man. He asks Vishwa Pratap what happened and the flashback starts. Vishwa Pratap is a truck driver with Sikandarlal Thakkar’s (Kader Khan) Thakkar Transports.
One day, he meets a runaway girl Lata (Sridevi). After listening to her sorrowful story of being a maid to a lecherous man, he takes her home to stay with him and his sister Laxmi. Soon, he has to go to Chambal Valley for transporting some goods. His cleaner Chirag (Asrani) tricks him to opt out of the trip and Lata joins him instead. It is at that time that Lata and Vishwa Pratap sing this song.
Song: The lyrics of this song were penned by Indiwar and the music was composed by Bappi Lahiri.
The girl and the man both say that they love each other and that they cannot live without each other.
Video: Cinematography is by A Venkat. Dance choreography is by Saroj Khan.
The video opens with Sridevi standing on the path of Mithun Chakraborty’s truck. When he gets down she begins to dance in earnest. Some comic antics between the 2 later both begin to dance and sing this song. After 2 changes of dress and location, they continue to dance. He tries to climb into the truck and she pulls him back twice.
He walks her away from the truck and climbs into it fast. She bangs on the door and moves away. Soon, she is seen lying on a pillow on the road as he drives the truck further. He climbs down and approaches her to pull her up. She goes back to lie down. He is about to kick her when she gets up. They begin to dance together again. The video ends as the truck moves further on the road.
Artists: The playback of this song was sung by Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar and the onscreen performance is by Sridevi and Mithun Chakraborty.
Cultural Influence: This is a typically filmi song sung by the hero and the heroine. It is surprising that they have not claimed that they love each other in any way till this song happens. But, they sing this romantic song at this point of time in this movie. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
