Movie: This song is featured in the 1968 thriller Hasina Maan Jayegi (The Beautiful Girl will Accept my Love) produced by Indoo Bhushan and directed by Prakash Mehra (debut) under the banner of Mangatram Films.
Archana (Babita) moves to a new city with her widower father. Rakesh (Shashi Kapoor) is her father’s friend’s son. He always teases her. It is during one of those teasing sessions that he sings this song for her.
Song: The music of this song was composed by Kalyani-Anandji and the lyrics were penned by Qamar Jalabadi.
The man says, “O winner of my heart, I am yours. I will hide your sorrows in my eyes.”
Video: Cinematography is by N Satyen. Dance choreography is by Satyanarayan.
The video opens with Shashi Kapoor reacting to Babita’s indifference. Babita goes to her car and begins to drive. He thinks what to do, scratching his head and follows her in his convertible. He goes via a different route and blocks her path. Then, he begins this song. He brings his car close to hers and they drive each of their cars slowly together.
Further, he follows her. He drives her off the road, soon and begins to trouble her. She ignores him and is about to drive off when she sees him fallen down, not moving. She backs the car toward him and stops. She is about to get out of the car when he jumps up to continue the song. He sits on the door of the car. But, she drives off.
He lets go of the car and follows her again in his car. Further on, she finds his car letting off steam. She tries to find him. He is sitting on a tree and continues the song. He walks upside down on his hands and then jumps on to her car to reach out to the keys and pulls them out. Babita leaves her car and gets into his car to drive off.
He is left with her car, one of whose tyres is punctured. He kicks the car and it goes off leaving him. How a car moves with a punctured tyre, I don’t know. He jumps into it to give it a direction. He catches up with her and runs into a haystack. He sticks his head out of the haystack and continues the song. He comes out of the haystack and stops the car.
He jumps on to his car hood to perform a few dance steps. She leaves his car and goes to drive hers. The video ends with Shashi Kapoor showing frustration about her leaving him.
Artists: The playback for this song was sung by Mohammad Rafi and the onscreen performances are by Shashi Kapoor and Babita.
Cultural Influence: The anti-hero is in a teasing spree. He is teasing the heroine in this typically filmi song. The artists are good and so is the song. The video is watchable.
