Sridevi was running a high-grade fever when she shot this song. The effort does not show in her acting and dance.

Movie: Produced by Boney Kapoor and directed by Shekhar Kapur under the banner of Narasimha Enterprises, Mr. India (1987) is a hit superhero science fiction movie. Background information is that Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan were offered this role. But they declined it because they could not place themselves in the role of an invisible hero. The star-cast included Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, late Amrish Puri, late Ashok Kumar, Satish Kaushik, Sharat Saxena, Ajit Vachchani and Bob Cristo.

Mogambo (Amrish Puri) is an intelligent but mad General, who wants to overpower India. He keeps an eye on the evil-doings of his henchmen. “Hail Mogambo” is a formal salute all his minions have to say when they visit him and otherwise.

Arun Verma (Anil Kapoor) is an orphan and plays violin in the streets to earn a living. He rents a large but old house, where about a dozen orphaned children reside. He and his cook Calendar (Satish Kaushik) take care of them. Arun lives below the poverty line and owes money to the grocer Roopchand (Harish Patel) and he hasn’t paid his dues to the landlord Maniklal (Yunus Pervez). Despite these issues in his life, Arun tries to keep a positive attitude.

Eventually, Calendar reminds Arun that expenses of running the house were rising. Thus, Arun goes to the local newspaper office to run an ad to rent out a room in their home. There he meets Investigative Reporter Seema Sahni (Sridevi). Seema decides to rent the room. Initially, there are tiffs because of the presence of too many children. But then, Seema becomes friends with everybody.

One day, Arun receives a letter from a family friend, Dr. Sinha (Ashok Kumar) with a mysterious message. The letter says that Arun’s late father had manufactured a gadget, which could make the user invisible, with the directions to find it. Arun goes to his father’s laboratory with his ward Jugal and finds the gadget. The gadget is in the shape of a gold watch to be worn on the wrist. When activated, the wearer becomes invisible to the naked eye. There is only one flaw in it. The wearer is visible in the red light. Arun and Jugal decide that they would keep the gadget a secret between them.

One day, Seema finds a party being organized by Mogambo’s henchmen Daaga (Sharat Saxena) and Teja (Ajit Vachchani) and performs a song-and-dance-sequence there disguised as a Hawaiian dancer. By the end of the song, Daaga and Teja get suspicious about her. She is then, rescued by Mr. India, who is actually the invisible Arun. Soon, Mr. India and Seema fall in love with each other and are seen singing this song.

Song: The song has Javed Akhtar’s funny lyrics and catchy music by Lakshmikant Pyarelal.

The gist of the song is that the man and the girl cannot live without each other and they confess that they are in love with each other.

Video: Cinematography is by Baba Azmi. Saroj Khan has choreographed this song very beautifully and imaginatively.

The video opens with the shot of the sets in a studio. Sridevi prances rhythmically toward a fireplace. Anil Kapoor appears fireplace and places a kiss on her neck. Time to time, Anil Kapoor appears and disappears either due to the red light or by activating the watch. Her dance is sensuous. Though Sridevi takes all the kudos, Anil Kapoor’s acting has also been done well. Part of the song has been shot in rain. The video ends with the end of the song.

Artists: The playback singers are Kishore Kumar and Alisha Chinoy. Visually, Sridevi dances to the tune of the song as Anil Kapoor supports her often invisibly!

Cultural Influence: Science is a fascinating thing in this cosmos. There are so many things that are unexplained here and need to be discovered and invented. Fictionally, people have imagined science progressing and presenting several things, unbelievable as yet. One of them is being invisible. Today, we cannot think of someone becoming invisible. But, keeping our minds open the eventuality could be possible in the future. May be at that time there will be some Mr. India and a reporter Seema, who would sing this song together. This song and the artists are good. The video is watchable.
