There’s a new rapper setting the streets on fire. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, please welcome to the stage MC Alex Trebek!
Trebek kills it as he reads out the lyrics of rap songs written by Drake, Kanye West, Desiigner and Kendrick Lamar. In the actual broadcast version there was no musical accompaniment, but some genius (and I mean that literally, not sarcastically) took Trebek’s vocals and matched them to the songs. The result is internet magic.
The category, “Let’s rap, kids”, appeared on College Jeopardy. Trebek was critical of his own performance; he says at the end of the video, he’s not very good at it but he’s getting the hang of it. I thought that he nailed all of them; granted I enjoyed the video for it’s unintentional comedic value, but there are a lot of rappers I like for their unintentional comedic value.
People seemed to be partial to the “Panda, panda, panda…” line, but I was partial to Trebek’s final verse when he says he is still hood famous. He definitely is for this week. Next week, however, he’s going to have to drop something hot to keep interest from waning.
Keep your ear to the streets for more Trebek news. A mixtape is in the works.
