Halsey | Badlands

Halsey, an American singer and songwriter, started songwriting at the age of 17 and in 2014 signed her first contract with Astralwerks. Also in 2014, her debut EP, Room 93, was released. A year later she released her first album, Badlands.

Halsey has always been musically talented. Growing up she played the violin, viola, cello, and acoustic guitar. Being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, music was her only outlet and the way her rent started getting paid. Halsey has played under numerous stage names, but finally decided to just settle on Halsey.  Before starting a music career, Halsey had plans of going to college to major in fine art, but not being able to afford it, she went to a community college for creative writing.

Halsey’s music career started after she posted cover songs on YouTube and Tumblr in 2012. In 2015 Halsey was the most talked about artist on Twitter. Halsey has been featured in interviews, performances, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and Last Call with Carson Daly.

Halsey is considered an electronic pop artist. Her music influences are The Notorious B.I.G., Slick Rick, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, 2Pac, The Cure, Alanis Morissette, and Nirvana. She also loves Panic at the Disco. Other big influences are Kanye West, The Weekend, Brand New, and Bright Eyes. As you can tell, Halsey loves and respects a lot of other music artists.

Now known as the voice of her generation, Halsey gets her joy from performing. She’s all about music, sexuality, relationships, and body images. Some listeners comment that the subjects she sings about are way too mature for her.

Halsey is really the artist to watch. Listen to her album Badlands, on iTunes.
