Today is Valentine’s Day. Therefore, I have chosen a few songs that depict love in different situations. This song depicts the beginning of love between a girl and a man.
Movie:
This song appears in the 1956 crime thriller CID directed by Raj Khosla and produced by Guru Dutt under the banner of Guru Dutt Films. It starred late Dev Anand, Shakila, late K N Singh, late Johnny Walker, Kum Kum, late Mahmood and Waheeda Rehman (debut).

Shrivastav is the editor of a newspaper and is about to expose the nefarious activities of a wealthy and influential man. He requests his friend Inspector Shekhar (Dev Anand) to meet him so that he could tell him about the threat he keeps receiving from the underworld. Shrivastava is killed before Shekhar arrives at the newspaper office. Shekhar suddenly remembers that he had seen a suspicious man in the elevator, while he was on the way to the editor’s office. When Shekhar reaches the streets, the man has already got into a car and left.

To follow the man, Shekhar borrows a woman’s (Shakila) car despite her protests. Though Shekhar explains to her the reason behind his borrowing the car, she throws a fit and even throws the car keys in the mud, while it is raining outside. As a result, they lose the chase. Overnight, Shekhar sleeps on the front seat and the woman in the back seat. When morning comes and they wake up, the woman finds the keys and gives Shekhar the slip to go home alone.

Shekhar returns to the crime scene. Pickpocket Master (Johnny Walker) is found at the crime scene and confesses to Shekhar that he had seen the murderer. Shekhar finds a clue in the cigarette butt dropped by the murderer and with the help of that he catches a man. Master identifies the killer (Mahmood) and the latter is jailed.

The next day Shekhar follows the woman, whose car he had used before to follow the killer. Actually, he is not following the woman, but on the way to visit his boss The Chief of Police (K N Singh). The lady is the Police Chief’s daughter Rekha. Soon, Shekhar is invited to the house of a woman Kamini (Waheeda Rehman), who bribes him to release the prisoner. But, this attempt fails. She spikes the drink given to Shekhar and in an intoxicated condition, he is left in the streets. Rekha finds him and brings him home.

During Rekha’s birthday party, Kamini also visits her home. Shekhar recognizes Kamini as the one, who had tried to bribe him. He follows Kamini to the chagrin of Rekha. Knowing that Rekha is upset with him, Shekhar visits a lakeside in thoughts and Rekha has also come there. He sings this song to confess his love for her.

Song: The lyrics were penned by Jan Nisar Akhtar and the music was composed by O P Nayyar.

Through this song, the man confesses that he is in love with her. She initially tries to find out, why he seems to have changed a lot. The eyes have passed several messages to each other. Due to this, the man and the girl have found their soul mates in each other.

Video: Cinematography is by late V K Murthy and late Anwar.

The video opens with Shakila sitting on the bank of a lake. The next shot is of Dev Anand, who is happy that Shakila is also there. He throws a small pebble in the water, which passes her. She looks at it and he begins the song. She smiles and stands up in rhythm with the song. She covers her face with the transparent edge of her sari.

She passes near him and he catches hold of the edge of her sari. She catches hold of the nearest tree-trunk and he drops the pallu of her sari. He catches hold of her hand, which she jerks off. First Dev Anand looks at Shakila through the small gap between 2 trees. Then it is her turn. Both follow the rhythm of the song. The cinematographers have picturized this very well.

She asks, “So this (your) heart is mine, now?” He, now, catches hold of her arm and pulls her close. She covers his mouth as he sings and she takes over. The video ends with the song.

Artists: The playback singers are Mohammad Rafi and Geeta Dutt and onscreen performances are by Dev Anand and Shakila look on.

Cultural Influence: When the movie had released, the songs had become very popular. Now, this typically filmi song is worth watching at least once during leisure.
