This is a hilarious song from Pati Patni Aur Woh. This song shows the perfect comic timing Sanjeev Kumar had.
Movie: This song appeared in B R Films’ Pati Patni Aur Woh (Husband, Wife and Her – Mistress). The movie is a B R Chopra produced and directed movie released in 1978. The movie stars late Sanjeev Kumar, Vidhya Sinha, Ranjeeta Kaur and Master Bittu with guest appearances by Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh and late Parveen Babi.
The story of the movie begins by drawing parallels with the story of Adam and Eve. In the story of the movie, Adam is Ranjeet (Sanjeev Kumar), Eve is Sharda (Vidya Sinha) and the apple is Nirmala (Ranjeeta Kaur). Ranjeet has been newly employed in a company. His salary is minimal and he travels to the office in a bicycle. When he bumps into Sharda for the first time, her bicycle gets badly damaged. Ranjeet has to drop her off because of it. The same evening, he goes to his friend Harish’s wedding. Sharda also comes to the ceremony. Ranjeet and Sharda fall in love and soon get married.
A few years later, Ranjeet becomes the Sales Manager as well as the father of a son. One day, the whole family sings this song.
Song: Lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi and the music has been composed by Ravindra Jain.
The song does not make sense in the overview. Individual lines make some sense. It is just for fun.
Video: The song opens with a bathroom scene, where Sanjeev Kumar and little Bittu are taking bath. While he pours water on himself, we feel that it must be really cold, because of his body language. But, we are sure while pouring the water on the little boy, it would not be so cold. But he acts so.
They use a metal bucket as a dholak (a musical instrument like a drum) and pretend that Sanjeev Kumar’s hand is an ek tara. Sanjeev Kumar’s every movement is fantastic. He was a born actor. His death was a big loss to the film industry.
In between, the little boy pulls Vidhya Sinha into the bathroom and the 3 of them enjoy the shower as one family. This is also a fascinating scene. The song picturization is superb.
Artists: Playback singers are Mahendra Kapoor, Asha Bhonsle and Sushma Shresht. Onscreen Sanjeev Kumar, Vidya Sinha and Master Bittu perform the song.
Cultural Influence: We do not know if this type of behavior happens in homes. But visually it is funny and enjoyable. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable.
