Late Kishore Kumar has sung several beautiful songs. This is one of the Kishore Kumar songs that I love.
Movie: This song appears in romantic musical drama Anurodh (Request), a 1977 movie produced by Girija Samanta and directed by late Shakti Samanta under the banner of Samanta Enterprises. The movie starred late Rajesh Khanna, late Simple Kapadia (debut), late Vinod Mehra, late Ashok Kumar, Rita Bhaduri, late Utpal Dutt, Asrani, late Asit Sen, late Nirupa Roy, late Dina Pathak, etc.
Arun (Rajesh Khanna), the son of a rich businessman Chaudhury (Utpal Dutt) and his wife (Dina Pathak), is an upcoming singer and sings, in Lucknow’s local radio station, songs that are written by his ailing friend Srikant (Vinod Mehra). His father wants him to take over their family business and thinks singing is not worthy of people of their status. These thoughts create constant friction between the father and the son. Srikant lives below poverty line and earns a living by writing songs. Arun always helps him with money, since Srikant cannot go out to work due to his illness. Once, Arun is late for his show on All India Radio. To pacify the audience and the manager Saxena (Asit Sen), he sings this song.
Song: The music of the film is composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal and the lyrics have been written by Anand Bakshi.
The man says that he is singing this song on request from the listeners. I let you enjoy my thoughts that come from my heart. When someone gets hurt, the poet is hurt as well. He suffers when a mirror breaks far away. The man is so sensitive.
Video: Cinematography by Aloke Dasgupta. The credits are shown during this song.
The video opens with the musicians playing their musical instruments. The next shot shows Rajesh Khanna placing a locket with his mother’s photo, which is tied to a chain around his neck, on his forehead and kissing it. Then, he hides it inside his shirt. He begins the song. When he utters the word Anurodh, the title appears from his mouth and the credits continue.
Asit Sen wipes the sweat from his face. Vinod Mehra is lying with his head on Nirupa Roy’s lap. Both are listening to the song on the radio. Again Rajesh Khanna is shown singing the song. Various musical instruments are shown being played. Asit Sen is happy and goes back to his room.
Dina Pathak is also shown listening to the song. The song gets over and Asit Sen gets up from his chair happily. Thus ends the video.
Artists: Playback singer is Kishore Kumar and Rajesh Khanna lip-syncs to it. Vinod Mehra, Nirupa Roy and Dina Pathak listen to the song over the radio at 2 separate locations.
Cultural Influence: The hero sings this song on request from listeners. This can happen in reality also. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable as many times according to our mood.
