Seema (Poonam Sinha) ditches Kumar (Dev Anand) and he takes to alcohol. But, his grandmother Dadi Maa’s (Durga Khote) illness jolts him off the bad habit. Kumar begins looking for a typical Indian but educated girl. He meets Madhu (Zeenat Aman), who is being tortured by her stepmother Mrs. Rai Bahadur (Nadira) and her half-sister Seema. Yes, the same Seema, who had ditched Kumar sometime back. Madhu takes refuge in a village. But, her step-mother’s goons follow her to the village and kidnap her. Kumar sees them and rescues Madhu.

She tells him that she is Champa, a village girl. Kumar tutors her into a typical Indian educated girl that his grandmother wants. Kumar tells Champa that he would give her 0.1 million rupees if she acted the way he told her to. Kumar sings this song while training Champa.

Song: The music of this song was composed by R D Burman and the lyrics were penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri.

The man is training and educating the girl. When told to say, “Hello Darling,” she talks about a city called Darjeeling. He goes further and tells her to say, “Good morning” and the meaning of love. Most of the words in this song rhyme with Darling, with an “ing” at the end. The song is just made to rhyme that way. At the end, the girl has learnt, what was taught to her.

Video: Cinematography is by Fali Mistry.

The video opens with Dev Anand entering the hotel room, whistling. Then, he begins the song. Zeenat Aman is sitting on the floor, smiling. She turns to him with a straight face. He tells her to get up and makes her sit on the sofa. Zeenat Aman takes the song further. She gets up and moves away from him to get hold of a showpiece, which almost falls down!

He signals and a girl enters the room holding a modern dress. He tells Zeenat Aman to go and wear the dress. Dev Anand looks exasperated. Zeenat Aman is not ready to remove the sari she is wearing. Dev Anand is seen dressing up. Zeenat Aman comes out of the room wearing the dress. We do not get to know where the girl who brought the dress has gone. Then, Dev Anand again takes over the song.

Dev Anand fills a wine glass and Zeenat Aman imitates him. When he places a cigarette in his mouth, she takes one too. He removes the cigarette from her mouth and she removes the one in his mouth. The next shot is of the sea from the vantage point of the balcony of the hotel room. He takes her outside the hotel room and returns to the room with her.

Suddenly, Zeenat Aman says, “I am sorry!” Dev Anand is shocked and asks, “Who said this?” She feels embarrassed and replies that she didn’t. He warns her that she has to do his bidding and she should not make fun of it. He takes her to the discotheque and teaches her how to perform ballroom dance. She steps on his foot and he turns around lifting it up in pain.

He takes her to the dining table and explains the stuff there. The video ends with Zeenat Aman telling him that she has picked up everything and Dev Anand saying, “Superb.”

Artists: The playback of this song was sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle and onscreen performances are by Dev Anand and Zeenat Aman.

Cultural Influence: The hero needs a city-bred girl as a wife on contract to appease his grandmother. The heroine has said that she is a village girl. Thus, he trains her through this song. This is a typically filmi song. The song is good and the video is watchable.
