Movie: This song appeared in 1973 social drama Jugnu (Firefly) produced and directed by Pramod Chakraborty under the banner of Pramod Films. The movie starred Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Ajit, Prem Chopra, late Pran, late Mahmood, late Nazir Hussain, etc.

Ashok (Dharmendra) is Jugnu, a Robinhood kind of character. There is no protected setting where he can’t steal. And the looted money is spent in an ashram. Once when he is stealing some diamonds and money from a smuggler (Ajit), he sees Seema (Hema Malini) on the shooting ground and leaves his suitcase filled with the diamonds and money in her car. He also displays his skills in shooting.

In anger, Seema leaves the place. Ashok follows Seema with the help of his friend Mahesh (Mahmood). Seema turns out to be the niece of the inspector general (Raj Mehra). With Mahesh’s help again, Ashok masquerades as a Sikh electrician and takes away the bag he had left in Seema’s car. Seema is betrothed to Ramesh (Prem Chopra). But, Ramesh is a drunkard and a compulsive gambler. To compensate for the previous loans that he had taken, the owner of the gambling den insists that Ramesh should picturize some secret government establishments by air.

Mahesh and Ashok get to know about this and they follow Ramesh. But, Ramesh is with Seema in a helicopter and Ashok follows them in a chartered plane. When they land, Mahesh swaps Ramesh’s camera with his own, without him knowing about it. The camera lands in the police station with the Inspector General.

Seema and her friends come to the police station looking for charity donations. Ashok is present in the police station then and gives them a donation of 0.3 million rupees. The inspector general introduces Ashok as a wealthy businessman to Seema. Soon, Seema finds out about Ashok’s philanthropy as well and falls in love with him.

Ashok is invited as the chief guest in the function arranged by the Defense Forces, where Seema is to perform a dance. Unknown to them, Ramesh’s boss (Ajit) has planned to kill Ashok since they have become suspicious that he is involved with Jugnu. He sends Mike (Manmohan) for the job. At the event, Ashok meets his father Shyam, without knowing his relationship with the older man. Ashok says that he had come for the event only because Seema was performing for it. Seema sings and dances to the tune of this song at this event.

Song: The music of this song was composed by S. D. Burman and the lyrics were penned by Anand Bakshi.

The girl has fallen in love with a man. He is not nearby. She misses him desperately. She also blushes thinking about her love at home. She does not go out because of this change in her behavior. Her hair is uncombed. Her mind wanders. She is worried, she might get lost. If by chance, she sees him on the road, she might not realize what is happening around her. She would keep looking at him steadfast. She can’t perform her routine tasks without seeing him. She can’t even sleep properly at night. During monsoons, she feels the heat in her body. The situation, in short, is very bad as far as the girl is concerned.

Video: Cinematography is by V K Murthy. Dance choreography is by Suresh Bhatt.

The video opens with a dancer’s shadow coming onto the stage and 2 musicians playing the drum on either side. When the dancer comes forward, we understand that she is Hema Malini. She has already started singing this song. There is a change of dress. She wears a short sari and moves in such a way that her light anklets ring.

A few other girls also perform a few steps. The audience is shown looking at the performance. Dharmendra is enjoying the performance. Prem Chopra is sitting behind him and is waiting for the moment when Manmohan would shoot Dharmendra. Manmohan is seen getting down a staircase.

The question is, during an event organized by the defense wouldn’t there be enough security around. There does not seem to be any during this event! There is another change of dress. Now, Hema Malini is wearing a red ghagra choli. Manmohan is seen holding a pistol and tries to find a vantage point. She, then, changes into a green fisherwoman dress. She sits on a boat and acts as if she is sailing in it. Soon, the video ends.

Artists: The playback of this song was sung by Lata Mangeshkar and the onscreen performances are by Hema Malini, Dharmendra, Prem Chopra, Manmohan and others.

Cultural Influence: The heroine performs as dance during an event and the hero is the chief guest in it. This can happen in real life also. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
