The XX

The XX are an English band formed in 2005. Band members include Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim, and Jamie XX. Baria Qureshi is no longer a member of the band. The band members all met while studying at Elliott School. The band’s first debut album, “XX”, was released in 2009 and was ranked highly among the best albums in 2009.

Their music is very personal–a part of them is given away in each song they write and perform. They put their all into the music they produce.

Interviewing with Pitchfork Croft mentions how ‘throughout pop music, you usually have to make the chorus really big.” That’s pretty true. In many songs, the chorus is the most important part and sometimes the chorus is the only part that people tend to remember. A lot of the band music is played live, so they make music based on what they are capable of playing on stage.

Growing up, neither members believed that they would become singers. That seems to be the case a lot of many music artists these days. Their hard work sure has paid off. Their music now has a lot of R&B and Pop influences. In their music, they are more focused on creating things that people have not yet heard. Originality is something that is valued.

Their upcoming third studio album, “I See You”, is set to release on January 13, 2017, on the Young Yurks label. The new album was announced around March 2014. “I See You”, will be the band’s first release for more than four years. The album’s lead single, “On Hold”, was released on November 10, 2016.  Their music is completely different from what you have heard. Check out their album “Coexist” (released in 2012) and be ready for the release of, “I See You”.
