The Head and The Heart is an American indie folk band. Forming in 2009, band members Josiah Johnson (vocals, guitar, percussion), Jonathan Russell (vocals, guitar, percussion), Charity Rose Thielen (violin, banjo, vocals), Chris Zasche (bass), Kenny Hensley (piano), and Tyler Williams (drums), have together has released three albums so far. The band has toured across North America and Europe so far.
The Head and The Heart was formed through the members meeting each other through a number of open mic nights at a pub in Seattle Washington. Charity was the last member to join the band after the band had already considered themselves as being complete.
Often at times, the band likes to take breaks from each other. As crazy as it sounds, take a break from each other is what keeps them together. Each and every time the members get back together, the band feels refreshed ready to start again. Their approach seems to be pretty healthy. To prevent unnecessary tension between each other, they take breaks and that’s perfectly okay. Right now the band is still on pretty good terms. With that moving forward, other bands should start following in their path.
A lot of their music is more positive and uplifting. Sometimes the band feels as if they are tired and beaten down, but choose to remain positive anyway.
Unfortunately, due to some health reasons, Josiah has not returned to the band yet. Matty, his friend who has been replacing him, has been doing pretty good in the band.
Balancing the band and working regular daytime jobs, The Head and The Heart has a lot going for them. They are pretty talented considering the conditions that they work under.
To people who want to start pursuing music, they say to take every chance you get. “Work as hard as you can because it just might pass up and then you lose it.”
