2016 Soul Train Awards

The Soul Train Awards were broadcast on BET and Centric last night. In case you missed it, there are highlights below:

Chance the Rapper won Best New Artist

It seems like ‘New Artist’ is a relative term; Chance has been in the consciousness of hip-hop heads since 2013. Nevertheless the award is an honor, one much deserved, and a nice way to end 2016, the same year that he got to visit the White House. Below is Chance’s video for the uplifting song How Great, which you should watch on your phone.

Beyonce took home a haul

Beyonce won Video of the Year (Formation), Album of the Year (LEMONADE), Best R&B/Soul Female Artist, and Song of the Year (Formation). Let’s take a look at the video that earned Beyonce all of the hardware (and Amy Schumer a bunch of scrutiny):

With Beyonce winning all of these awards is it any wonder that Kanye is going crazy? Beyonce did lose to Kanye (sort of) in one category:

Teyana Taylor’s dance does not Fade

Teyana won Best Dance Performance. Watch the video. No commentary necessary.
