Movie: This song appeared in 1999 romantic drama Mann (Heart, Mind) directed by Indra Kumar and produced by Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria under the banner of Maruti International. The movie starred Aamir Khan, Manisha Koirala, Rani Mukherjee, etc. The movie is not just a remake of Bheegi Raat (1965) but also a frame-by-frame copy of An Affair to Remember. This movie comes after Akele Hum Akele Tum, where the same lead actors worked. The same year this movie was remade in Telugu as Ravoyi Chandamama. Initially, Aishwarya Rai was contacted for the role of Priya. But she rejected it due to prior date commitments.
Dev Karan Singh (Aamir Khan) is a playboy and an ambitious painter deep in debt. He agrees to marry the wealthy business tycoon Singhania’s (Dalip Tahil) daughter Anita (Deepti Bhatnagar) to repay his debts. Priya (Manisha Koirala) is a children’s music teacher and is engaged to Raj (Anil Kapoor). She had agreed to marry Raj because he had helped her when she was in need. Priya and Dev meet on a cruise. Though Dev is a Casanova, Priya falls in love with him. We do not know about Dev because he keeps falling for any girl even after he has met Priya. It is around this time that Dev sings and dances with another girl Kamini (Shama Sikander), he met during the cruise. Manisha Koirala watches this and feels that Dev is pulling her as well into the dance.
Song: The music of this song was composed by Sanjeev-Darshan and the lyrics were penned by Sameer. The instrumental music of this song is heard when the credits run during the beginning of the movie.
The girl asks, “Why do I still love you?” The man explains how important she is to him. This is the gist of the song.
Video: Cinematography is by Basha Lal. Dance choreography is by Ganesh Acharya.
The video opens with Manisha Koirala about to leave the place sadly and turning back when Aamir Khan begins to sing this song. Manisha Koirala is wearing a green skirt blouse. Aamir Khan is wearing a black and beige suit. Shama Sikander is wearing a white mini skirt.
Manisha Koirala is very sad and Aamir begins to dance with Shama Sikander. When Aamir Khan pulls Shama Sikander closer, Manisha Koirala feels that she is being pulled by him. Manisha Koirala feels love-induced pangs and is crying. The video ends with Manisha Koirala watching the other 2 from a hill.
Artists: The playback of this song was sung by Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan. Onscreen performances are by Aamir Khan, Shama Sikander and Manisha Koirala.
Cultural Influence: The hero is a playboy and is singing and dancing with some girl. The heroine is in love with the hero, so she feels that he is dancing with her instead of the other girl. This can happen in normal life as well but the result depends on one’s fate. The song is good and the video can be watched as many times as the viewer wishes.
