In an effort to mobilize young voters, Hillary Clinton has enlisted the likes of Jay-Z amongst others to garner additional support for her Democratic presidential nomination. Jay-Z will perform in Cleveland on November 4th. There has not been a nominee in history that has gone on to win the presidential election without conquest of the state of Ohio. Consequently, the results of this election will become much more narrow due to the electoral college. Hillary hopes to heighten her vote count by targeting young voters of color. Strong presence from voters of color will create a seemingly improbable situation for Donald Trump.
Jay-Z, the multimillion dollar musical mogul exemplifies the ability to be an outspoken advocate for Hillary’s campaign. In 2012, Jay-Z linked up with another boss, Bruce Springsteen in Columbus, Ohio to electrify Obama’s reelection efforts. Ohio is an important battleground state within the electoral college. This maneuver by the Clinton camp will most likely be the last move to complete their “closing argument” strategy.
The Clintons and the Carters intertwine their influence to produce favorable outcomes for their supporters. Recently, Bill Clinton could be seen interacting with Beyonce at the Made in America music festival in Philadelphia. Also, Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade’ received high praise from Hillary. Most importantly, Beyonce has used her platform to speak out on issues like police brutality, infidelity and black pride. Over time, Beyonce and Jay-Z have formed powerful and timeless collections of rhetoric that leave lasting impacts.
From October 20 to October 23, Jay-Z, and Roc-a-Fella co-founder, Kareem “Biggs” Burke celebrated the 20th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt with a pop-up shop in D&D Recording Studios. Jay collaborated with luxury brands and Fancy.com to “deliver something unique to consumers” since D&D studios served as the birthplace of ‘Reasonable Doubt.’
Jay-Z has maintained a spot in the headlines via pop-up shop, Kanye’s Tidal vs. Apple remarks and now due to his involvement with the Clinton campaign. Jay-Z, an outspoken artist with an opposition to police violence is one of several artists the Clinton’s have enlisted to host concert performances. The National, an Ohio group, will perform in Cincinnati, and Jennifer Lopez will perform in Miami, FL on October 29. Another high profile individual, LeBron James has publicly expressed his support for Hillary stating, “Only one person running truly understands the struggles of a child born into poverty.” Hillary has done everything she can to appeal to young voters including the potential chance to meet Pusha-T upon voter registration. Pusha T and Jay-Z’s song “Drug Dealer’s Anonymous” and Beyonce’s halftime show performance at the Super Bowl are two of just a few formidable methods these influential artists have used to stir popular opinion.
