Diwan Bahadur Kapoor (Prithviraj Kapoor) is Ram Bahadur Kapoor’s (Raj Kapoor) father. Ram has a son Rajesh (Randhir Kapoor), who was sent to London for higher studies. When he returns to India, he learns that his grandfather has promised his childhood friend that Rajesh would be married to the latter’s granddaughter.
But, Rajesh is in love with Monica (Babita) and objects to the alliance. The grandson and the grandfather are adamant in their decisions, without realizing that Ram is getting sandwiched between them. Ram leaves their home with the grandfather and grandson having blaming sessions. At this time Rajesh’s friend Hamid (Narendra Nath) gets married and Rajesh and Monica are invited for the reception. Hamid and some other friends come together to bring the couple close to each other. It is at this time that Rajesh sings this song.
