Movie: This song appears in 2001 hit family drama Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (Sometimes Happiness, Sometimes Sorrow) also called K3G directed by Karan Johar and produced by Yash Johar under the banner of Dharma Productions. The movie starred Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee, etc.
Yashvardhan Raichand (Amitabh Bachchan), an affluent businessman, lives in India with his wife Nandini (Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan) and 2 sons Rahul and Rohan. Rahul is the elder one and was adopted by Yashvardhan and Nandini at birth. This is known to everyone except Rohan. When Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) grows up, he meets the bubbly Punjabi-speaking Anjali Sharma (Kajol) and they fall in love with each other. It is at this time that they sing this song in a dream sequence.
Song: The music of this song was composed by Sandesh Shandilya and the lyrics were penned by Anil Pandey.
This song says that when he fell in love with the girl, there were so many things happening, which were extraordinary. The sun’s heat reduced. The moonlight began to burn, etc.
Video: Cinematography is by Kiran Deohans.
The video begins with Shah Rukh Khan putting bangles on Kajol’s hand and Kajol running away happily. The next shot is of Egypt, where Kajol wearing a bright orange dress is running toward the pyramids. Shah Rukh Khan comes from near one pyramid wearing a pair of white trousers and transparent shirt.
Shah Rukh Khan invites her into his arms. Then he is picturized against the setting sun. There is a change of dress and location. Now, Kajol is wearing a light green sari and Shah Rukh Khan is wearing a pair of black trousers and black shirt. Shah Rukh Khan also imagines that they have got married and she performs pooja at their mansion.
There is another change of dress. Kajol is wearing a yellow sari and Shah Rukh Khan is wearing a pair of white trousers and light blue shirt. The color of the dresses of the lead pair all through the song goes well with the color of the location. Next, Kajol is seen in a red sari and Shah Rukh Khan in a pair of black trousers and shirt.
Kajol imagines performing Karwa Chauth pooja for Shah Rukh Khan. In the next shot, she is wearing a black salwar kameez and Shah Rukh Khan is wearing a maroon shirt and a pair of black trousers. Then, Shah Rukh Khan comes out of water completely wet. Kajol is also present nearby and she is also wet.
The video ends with Kajol in tears because of the social divide between Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan, which might not let them unite.
Artists: The playback of this song was sung by Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik and the onscreen performances are by Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol.
Cultural Influence: Dream sequences are common in many movies. But, these can happen in the form of thoughts in reality. The song is good and picturized well. Thus, the video is watchable.
