Kanye and Jay-Z beef

Another day, another beef in the life of Kanye West. This time Mr. West feuded with his mentor and frequent collaborator Jay-Z.

Never one to shy away from the limelight, Kanye made his position known during a performance in Seattle for his Saint Pablo tour. After concertgoers uploaded grainy cellphone footage, news outlets reported on Thursday afternoon that Mr. West had a falling out with Jay-Z. The whole dispute is somewhat convoluted. There are several factors, among them a disagreement over the making of the song Pop Style. Apparently Jay-Z was on the track, then backed out (he didn’t want to collaborate with Drake out of respect to Meek Mill), before finally providing two bars that were ultimately removed from the final release.

Another contention from Mr. West was that Jay-Z failed to offer the proper amount of sympathy in the wake of a personal tragedy. The tragedy was Kim Kardashian, Mr. West’s wife, being held up at gunpoint in a hotel room in Paris. The shock of the robbery reverberated around the internet, especially the Twitter-sphere where many offered condolences to the West family. According to Mr. West Jay-Z’s response wasn’t sufficient. He said, “Don’t call me after the robbery and say, ‘How you feelin’?’ You wanna know how I’m feeling? Come by the house … Bring the kids by the house, like we’re brothers.”

Mr. West has had a tumultuous year. His wife’s misfortune aside, the rapper feuded with Kid Cudi last month (though that one was started by Kid Cudi), he maintained his uneven relationship with Taylor Swift and back in January he went on the most epic of Twitter rants after Wiz Khalifa accused Kanye of thievery. Jay-Z’s year has been pretty rough as well. He’s had a falling out with his one time protégé and constant speculation over the lyrics in his wife’s songs.

Ultimately the beef means that fans of Watch the Throne will not be getting a sequel anytime soon. Kanye said on stage in Seattle, “There will never be a Watch the Throne 2.”
