The video for Cash Machine was released on October 18, 2016 ahead of the album Big Baby D.R.A.M. which comes out on the 21st.
The video is a fun, playful day in the neighborhood of D.R.A.M. He comes out of his house and starts dancing on piano keys that were meticulously drawn on the cement by a little boy. The piano keys light up like the floor in the movie Big. D.R.A.M. then gets on his tricycle and rides down the street spraying money from a “cash gun” and leaving dollars in his wake. As he rides he passes attractive women dancing in their front yards, watching him throw cash to the breeze.
D.R.A.M.’s behavior in the video is embraced by most of the adult residents of the neighborhood, but some of the kids seem to think he’s acting a bit strange. The kid who drew the piano keys at the beginning gives D.R.A.M. some side eye. Later two little girls look thunderstruck as they watch D.R.A.M. gulp down their lemonade right in front of their stand. However once he raises his cash gun into the air and showers them with money their attitudes quickly change.
The way money makes people view you differently is not lost on D.R.A.M. He raps I used to get the coldest shoulders/But now I get the hottest a**. It doesn’t bother him though because, as he says I ain’t talking to you broke bit*****/I got money now/All a nig** understand is (cash machine)/Since that check came in. Later D.R.A.M. actually sings I love it when you talk to me, my cash machine, my cash machine. The beat matches D.R.A.M.’s goofy crooning which is somewhat reminiscent of the legendary clown prince of rap Biz Markie. The occasional sound of the cash machine counting and shuffling dollars is used to great effect.
Cash Machine is the third single from D.R.A.M.’s upcoming debut album. It was released on September 9, 2016 and it was produced by Ricky Reed. The new album has guest appearances from Young Thug, Erykah Badu and Lil Yachty. It will be available everywhere on October 21st.
