Bruno Mars wants everyone to join him for a party in the sky tonight. The “Uptown Funk” crooner is back with his first single since last year’s I-can’t-get that-song-out-of-my-head collaboration with Mark Ronson. The invitation is in the form of his new song and upcoming album entitled “24K Magic” set to release on November 18.
It’s been four years since Mars released a full-length album, but he hasn’t forgotten how to come out swinging. In “24K Magic,” his style continues to emulate 1970s funk and soul with a modern twist, using phrases like “hashtag blessed.” The video is an ode to throwback glitz and glamour as Mars and his posse dance around Las Vegas after hopping off their jumbo private jet. Don’t forget the expected entourage of beautiful women in the background.
The party continues into the hotel and casino as Mars proclaims, “Pop pop, it’s show time (Show time)/Show time (Show time)/Guess who’s back again?/Oh they don’t know? (Go on tell ’em)/Oh they don’t know? (Go on tell ’em)/I bet they know soon as we walk in (Showin’ up).” It’s the perfect reminder that he has been instantly recognizable since the beginning, and we better not forget it.
“24K Magic” isn’t much of a stretch from “Uptown Funk,” but it’s definitely more of a feel-good party jam instead of a repetitive Top 40 radio monster. His energy is magnetic and you’d be crazy not to have the urge to get up and dance from start to finish. I’ll be waiting patiently in the mail for my invitation to any of his parties.
