Kid Cudi released the video for his single Frequency off of his album Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ on October 12, 2016.

As the video begins, a shirtless Kid Cudi dances in the middle of a dark forest. A light fog clings to the forest floor and snatches of moonlight illuminate Kid Cudi’s shiny torso and his reflective sunglasses. Eventually a scantily-clad, young woman emerges from a vine-covered gate. Kid Cudi lights a cigarette (or something that looks like a cigarette) and presumably dances his way towards the forest vixen. Before he reaches her, however, he succumbs to the charms of two ladies on a mattress littered with rose petals.

The video also contains images of a woman performing forest gymnastics and several out of focus shots of cartoonish mushrooms as well as women applying glow-in-the-dark body paint on one another. Cudi’s words fittingly accompany the images: Couple clubs and I’m in the zone/Rather take the party home/Took it in the groove/Wet sex passionate in a dark tomb.

The beat and lyrics match the sensuality of the video though none of it feels particularly original. If the old adage is true, however, the video’s various barely concealed body parts should make it as popular as Kid Cudi’s previous ventures.

The video was directed by Kid Cudi himself. According to Imdb this is his third directorial effort. Frequency is the first single and the first song on the album. It was released on March 25, 2016. Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ is set to be released sometime this month. The release of the video would suggest that PPDS will be out soon. The album is going to be a double disc album that is broken up into four acts. It represents a return to hip hop after Kid Cudi ventured into alternative rock with 2015’s Speedin’ Bullet to Heaven.

Kid Cudi recently made headlines when he released a series of tweets attacking “haters in the industry.” He didn’t just leave it to generalizations; he named Kanye and Drake who both responded in kind. To read Kid Cudi’s tweets and see Ye and Drake’s rebuttals click here.
