Jadugar tere naina – Kishore/Lata – Lakshmikant-Pyarelal – Sanjeev Kumar/Waheeda Rehman | Man Mandir (1971)

Movie: This song appears in 1971 drama Man Mandir (The Temple of the Heart) produced by Soodesh Kumar and directed by Tapi Chanakya. The movie starred late Sanjeev Kumar, Waheeda Rehman, Rakesh Roshan, Soodesh Kumar, late David, late Mahmood, etc. Rakesh Roshan signed and shot for this movie first. But, his Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani, signed later released before this movie.

Deepak (Sanjeev Kumar) and his sister Lakshmi (Kanchan) were orphaned at a young age and live in a poor locality. Deepak is a taxi-driver and they live with his earnings. He is introduced to Krishna (Waheeda Rehman) and they soon get married and bring into the house Krishna’s brother Ramu (Rakesh Roshan), as well. The day after the wedding Deepak takes Krishna with him on a date. It is at this time that they sing this song.

Song: The music of this song was composed by Lakshmikant-Pyarelal and Rajinder Kishan penned the lyrics.

In this song, newlyweds praise each other and how their lives changed after their meeting.

Video: Cinematography is by Jal Mistry.

The video begins with the beautiful shot of Sanjeev Kumar and Waheeda Rehman standing among small plants laden with flowers in a garden. Then he moves forward toward the camera from in front of a traveler’s palm (Ravenella madagascaris), while beginning the song. Waheeda Rehman peeps from above some crotons and hums the tune before joining him in the song.

Waheeda Rehman is wearing a light orange sari and Sanjeev Kumar is wearing a pair of beige trousers and a blue shirt. Sanjeev Kumar brings a couple of pink asters to her. Next, they are in a taxi (apparently Sanjeev Kumar’s in the movie). Soon, they get a flat tire and both get down for changing the tire.

Sanjeev Kumar applies grease on her face just for fun and she takes mock offense. He makes her sit aside and he changes the tire. After the job is done, they sit in the car again and go for another drive. Then, the petrol gets over and they push the vehicle to a petrol filling station.

The front shots of the couple sitting in the taxi and driving are definitely studio shots with moving images of streets shown in the background. The video ends with the taxi moving on the Marine Drive, Mumbai and shots of the sea face.

Artists: The playback singers of this song are Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar and the onscreen performances are by Sanjeev Kumar and Waheeda Rehman.

Cultural Influence: People would go out to visit different places to enjoy the togetherness. This is a movie, so the hero and the heroine sing a song during the trip. The video can be watched for the lead pair many times.
