This song is very good and attracts us to make us sing to its tune.
Movie: This song has been placed in the M. A. Nadiadwala produced hit movieYaarana (Friendship) released in 1981. It is a musical drama and directed by Rakesh Kumar. The movie stars Amitabh Bachchan, late Amjad Khan, Neetu Singh, Tanuja and Kader Khan. Yaarana was one of the Amitabh Bachchan movies in which Amjad Khan has played a positive role. Otherwise he was a regular villain in most of his movies.
Kishan and Bishan are good friends since childhood. Kishan is an orphan, though self-sufficient and a hard-worker. On the other hand, Bishan was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Bishan’s uncle (Jeevan) has an eye on his widowed sister’s wealth and does not like Kishan and Bishan’s friendship. The man manipulates his sister to send Bishan first to the city and then abroad for his education.
The 2 friends reunite many years later and Bishan (Amjad Khan) discovers that Kishan (Amitabh Bachchan) sings well. Bishan now has a successful business and wants to sponsor Kishan’s musical studies. Kishan goes to the city and Bishan requests Komal (Neetu Singh) to groom Kishan into a performer and a gentleman. Kishan is not interested in developing his talent and tries to get debarred from the classes by being a disobedient troublemaker with hilarious consequences.
Meanwhile, Bishan discovers that the family wealth has been continuously looted over the past 18 years by his uncle and his son (Ranjeet). Bishan is then compelled to borrow money by mortgaging his remaining property to support Kishan’s musical education. This results in a major rift between Bishan and his wife (Tanuja), who thinks that Kishan would turn his back on her husband once he succeeds as a singer.
Kishan finds out Bishan’s financial condition and at that time he decides that he does not want the singing career, which has almost brought his friend to the streets. At this time, Komal argues with him that his friend and her efforts would go into the drain if he would not continue with his career. She even blurts out in frustration has she has fallen in love with him.
This is the time when Kishan realizes his duties towards Bishan and Komal and sings this song to placate her.
Song: The music has been composed by Rajesh Roshan and the lyrics have been written by Anjaan.
The boy says, “What sign have you made by touching my heart? The season has changed. The entire world has become lovely.”
Due to the girl’s expression of her love for him, the boy has become convinced that he has a goal in his life now, i.e. to succeed as a singer. Where he was looking at the negative side of the situation, her pep talk has actually made him see the situation in a different way and is seeing positivity in it.
The boy continues, “If you say, I will sing for you. I will also write songs using your words. The world tries to find you in my songs. What sign have you made by touching my heart? The season has changed. The entire world has become lovely.”
The boy has also realized that he in turn has fallen in love with the girl. So he decides that if she desires he would sing for her from then and use her words for the songs he would write.
The boy sings again, “Come, I will fill this, your dupatta, with my love. I will transfer the entire world’s happiness to you. You are my life and life’s support system. What sign have you made by touching my heart? The season has changed. The entire world has become lovely.”
The boy now expresses his desire to fill his beloved’s life with his love. He wants to go to the extent of capturing the happiness of the entire world and transfer it to her.
Video: Cinematography is by Peter Pareira.
The song has been picturized in an indoor stadium on location. The actors have worn normal dresses and not costumes for the song. There was very little dance and the gestures were very simple. The flooring of the stadium is very good.
Lights in the place where the audience sits look like stars and these lights also fall on the floor. Overall the song has been picturized very well.
Artists: Kishore Kumar sings playback, while Amitabh Bachchan lip-synchs. Neetu Singh looks on.
Cultural Influence: Normally, a boy would tell a girl about his love with spoken words. Cinematic liberty has been taken and the boy here sings this song, instead.
